Botanical Explorations

Indonesia is a wonderful country and the only place in Southeast Asia where snow can be found. Its seven bioregions, each separated by sea, have resulted in a high number of plant species. With only Java having a relatively well-documented flora, botanical exploration is the most crucial component in studying the plant diversity in this country amidst the rapid development of ‘advanced botany’ like molecular systematics.

2022 – Exploration in Mount Sumbing Crater to look for Rhododendron loerzingii and other montane plants.

2023 – An interesting Cyrtandra flower discovered in a montane forest west of Lake Poso, Sulawesi Tengah Province.

2023 – A small lake in the upper montane bog ecosystems of northern Gayo Plateau. This area has almost zero botanical inventory.

2022 – Meeting with one of the most unique and threatened pitcher plants in the wild is just amazing. This one is Nepenthes lavicola endemic to northern part of Sumatra.
